FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Before
filling out our Waiting List Questionnaire, please read the following:
PERSONALITY:
Norfolks are truly a gift and are the most loving and loyal creatures with a hint of independence. They never have a
bad day! However, they do not like to be away from their family as they thrive on companionship of their people.
They like activity, but do like to sit quietly next to you on occasion. They do prefer to have a job. They
are not a "yappy" dog, but they will sometimes talk to you (with a cross between a bark and a yodel) and also let you
know when you should be alarmed (whether it is a bad guy or squirrel ;). They are highly intelligent and learn
the English language very quickly so you will have to learn to spell some of your words out (until they learn that too ;).
They are about 10" in height, but at the same time very sturdy.
They
also have a very strong chase instinct for anything that moves as that is what they were bred for. You do need to contain
them by either a fence or on a leash at all times. When their instinct takes over, they are very intense and will not
hear you calling them. Containment is for their own protection and to keep your heart from breaking!
VACCINATIONS/DEWORMING: All pups receive a high titer
Parvo shot at 6 weeks, and then a 5-way shot at 8 and 10 weeks old. You will
be able to have your pup in your home at 10 ½ weeks old and then you will need to give it at least one more of the 5-way shots
or whatever your Vet recommends. They are wormed at 2 weeks of age and then every
two weeks after until they go to their new homes. There are also other health
preventions we do which are documented with you getting a copy when the pup is picked up.
FEED: I only recommend Flint River Ranch dog food. They are a company that uses only
human grade ingredients---no by products. They also bake the kibble for more digestibility. Also, it is delivered
to your door for the same price as buying a premium quality dog food at a store and you do not have to drive to pick it up!
Yes, no extra shipping costs are involved. They test their ingredients coming in and final products going out of their
facility located in the United States. They have never been involved in a recall. The dogs just blossom on it and stay extremely healthy. You will end
up using less of the food and have less stool clean up as they are able to utilize more of the food. And, after the dog
has been on the food for awhile, you will end of feeding about 1/3 less than regular dog food. Here is their link, if
you choose to treat your dogs to the best food I have found after hundreds of hours researching http://www.frrco.com/122797 . (Please put Jackpot Kennels in the referral section if ordering)
WHAT COMES WITH
OUR PUPS: All our puppies come with health tested parents (eyes, hearts, patellas), AKC registration papers (Pets are
Limited and have a spay/neuter requirement), Health records and future recommendations of vaccination and worming prevention,
Buyer's Health Contract, Veterinarian Health Certificate, a Lifetime of Breeder support, Microchip ID Implant, Grooming suggestions,
travel crate or duffle, and food. They will also have a start on housebreaking, be very socialized by people and
sounds, and accustomed to affection.
As
a preventative and for peace of mind, all our dogs (twice yearly) and puppies have a health screening that will test
for abnormalities that can be indicative of urinary diseases as well as diseases of other organ systems including liver
function, kidney status, digestion, pH acid-base status and carbohydrate metabolism. We also certify eyes, hearts, and
patellas on a regular basis.
Why the pricing? Norfolks
are an incredibly rare breed with only 300 registered per year versus 140,000 Labrador Retrievers.
There are so many
things that go into raising a Norfolk Terrier. First, if you are lucky enough
to get one mated, keep your fingers crossed that you do not have to have a c-section.
Then, a reputable Breeder should only be breeding to keep one for themselves to improve their bloodlines. Since they only have about 2-3 on average, that leaves only 1-2 available to other
people. Then, you have all the health testing involved with the parents and new
puppies. Show costs to prove they are worthy of breeding. Cost of the best quality
dog food, Vet check ups, and this is just the tip of the iceberg---there is so much more!
This is not an easy breed to raise, but thankfully they are a healthy breed.
SHIPPING: Pups can fly with you on board
the airplane in a special doggy duffle under the seat in front of you for an extra fee.
This is the least stressful and most desirable way for them. Or, they
can be shipped by cargo airplane which is about $400 or so.
AVAILABILITY: We occasionally have something
available, young and old which are not always listed on the website. Please check with us for current availability.
If you would like to be on our waiting list or are interested in one our our available dogs, please go to this link WAITING LIST QUESTIONNAIRE to fill out the form and send it to us.
This form is not a test but rather a way to get to know you and be able to fit a puppy to your needs. We will let you know when we have something available as soon as we come to your name from our list.
